Psychiatric Care

Boscobel Area Health Care has a 10-bed in-patient mental health unit that provides locked crisis stabilization, complete mental health evaluation, and drug and alcohol detox.

Our program accepts adults, and youth ages 12 and older, who are in need of voluntary or involuntary crisis stabilization. We accept most insurance carriers and will guide voluntary admissions to their insurance companies for authorization. People generally stay three days, but the length of stay is based on each person's needs.

We are staffed by people representing the following professions:
Alcohol/Drug Counselors
General Practice Doctors
Nursing
Occupational Therapy
Medical Doctors specializing in mental health issues
Psychologists
Social Workers

Alcohol and Drug Assessment: Boscobel area Health Care has a certified alcohol and drug (AODA) counselor to work with people who have evaluations ordered by the doctor. After the assessment, referrals to counseling services near a person's home town are offered.

Crisis Stabilization: Emergency crisis services are available for people who need immediate mental health care on a voluntary or involuntary basis. A mental health evaluation will be completed by the treatment team. Education and support of patients and families is offered. Referrals to continue treatment close to home are given to patients before discharge.

Detoxification: Emergency drug and alcohol detox is offered through our in-patient mental health unit. Patients are assessed for drug/alcohol abuse or dependency. We then provide education, support and referral information for the person to continue care with counselors in your own community.

Medication Management: If needed, doctors at BAHC prescribe medication to treat your mental illness. Staff will meet with you to provide education about your medication. Prescriptions are written when you leave. If you are on medication when you arrive, with your permission, we will contact your pharmacy to get a correct list and with the doctor's permission continue them here.

Psychological Testing: If ordered by the doctor, we can complete psychological testing. These tests are paper and pencil tests and may help in your mental health evaluation and prescribing the correct medication. Based on the results of the testing, treatment continues on the unit and with referrals for treatment within the patient's own community.

Counseling/Social Work: Counseling includes individual and group sessions and is based on a person's own needs. With the patient's permission, family meetings for education and support are available. The social work staff helps people find services to continue therapy close to your own community.
