Foundation kicks off 2009 Appeal with three large donations

Boscobel Area Health Care Foundation kicked off their annual appeal this week with donations from the Appeal Co-Chairs, Jack Kinney and Sam Slaman, and a donation from BAHC administrator, John Russell. The combined donations amounted to more than $3,500 - a great start to the 2009 Annual Appeal.

The BAHC Foundation is a non-profit group comprised of volunteers dedicated to securing gifts to assist Boscobel Area Health Care in meeting the healthcare needs of the community.

The Foundation's most recent project was purchasing $18,000 in new equipment for the surgery department to use in Podiatry and Orthopedic procedures. Other projects in the last year include new equipment for cardiac pulmonary rehab and contributions to the new emergency room.

"The Foundation is very proud of its ability to engage the community in supporting healthcare. The outcome of many emergency situations is dependant on receiving timely treatment. Having a facility that can provide services close to home is important to our quality of life," says Dr. Richard Rogers, Foundation President.

The Foundation finances projects through fundraising efforts, including the Doc Randall Golf Tournament, Monday Night Bingo, and the Annual Appeal for donations.

Rogers said all gifts will be recognized in local newspapers, the BAHC website, and on the Foundation's donor wall inside the hospital's new addition.

Chairpersons for this year's annual appeal are Sam Slaman of Boscobel and Jack Kinney of Blue River. Both serve on the Foundation Board of Directors, and have contributed in both time and money.

Kinney joined the Foundation in 2006 because "It is really important for everyone to get behind the hospital. We are fortunate to have this facility in a community our size. The availably of services and short distance to medical care is a benefit to all of us, and to our families."

Kinney said he and his wife Sally are grateful to have a facility close to their home in Blue River. "I have been a patient myself and have received very good care here."

Slaman, who also joined the Foundation in 2006, said "I am convinced that people in our area appreciate how lucky we are to have such excellent healthcare. In some larger American cities, it can take months to see your doctor. It's not just the physical location that makes Boscobel Area Health Care so convenient, but the availability of excellent health care services when you need them."

Boscobel has been home to Slaman and his wife Karen since 1967. "Karen, myself, and our five children have all received quality medical services from the dedicated professionals and health care workers in our community clinics and hospital," Slaman said. "My mother, Elizabeth Slaman, was a resident of our nursing home and a patient in our hospital. Currently, Karen's mother, Toni, is a nursing home resident and utilizes hospital services."

Slaman adds "Jack and his wife Sally have been great friends for over 40 years. Thus, it is an honor to co-chair this Annual Appeal with long time friend Jack Kinney to do our part to help continue the availability of this important facility."

Tax deductible donations may be sent to Boscobel Area Health Care Foundation, 205 Parker Street, Boscobel, WI 53805.
