Boscobel Area Health Care honors EMS volunteers at annual dinner
Boscobel Area Health Care will hold their annual EMS Recognition Dinner on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, as part of National EMS Week.
"We work with more than 12 area first responder and rescue squad units," says Dr. Gert Hasselhof, Medical Director for the Emergency Room. "Every unit is comprised of dedicated volunteer community members who give their time to ensure timely treatment and access to medical care for their communities."
Hasselhof says volunteer emergency units are an important part Boscobel Area Health Care's team. "They are the first response, and an extension of the medical community. We are fortunate to have so many people willing to volunteer their time to provide these services."
In addition to the dinner, Boscobel Area Health Care has partnered with the South Central Regional Trauma Advisory Council (SCRTAC) to offer trauma education training.

"The units we work with are volunteer, and raise their own money for equipment and education. We want to show our support of their efforts and provide additional educational resources," said Emergency Room Nurse Manager Amy Franklin on why training was added to this year's program.
The 2008 SCRTAC Trauma Education training is two hours, and addresses trauma, shock, head injuries, and airway management. "It is very interactive and scenario based," says Dan Williams, SCRTAC EMS Coordinator.
EMS volunteers interested in attending the dinner and training can RSVP to Mary Sprosty, Boscobel Area Health Care, at 608-375-6300.
