Donation of Children's Books
Boscobel Area Health Care has nearly 100 books for children to read in the hospital and clinic waiting rooms, thanks to the efforts of eight-year-old Mariah Steiner of Boscobel.
Steiner is a National Ambassador for the National American Miss Pageant program and active community volunteer. Steiner has spoken to student assemblies at Fennimore, Boscobel and Muscoda to solicit donations of teddy bears and books to donate to hospitals and clinics throughout Wisconsin. Steiner calls her program "Operation Teddy Bears and Books."
"She got the idea when her brother Hunter was bit by a dog and came to the emergency room at Boscobel Area Health Care. He received a teddy bear from the ER nurse," says Steiner's mother, Kris Steiner.
Since that incident, Steiner has collected 2,000 teddy bears, 1,000 books, and 85 puzzles for medical facilities.
"It's pretty difficult to read your child an issue of Woman's Day in the waiting area. Mariah loves books, and collecting these for the hospital has been fun for her," said Kris.
Boscobel Area Health Care will make the books available in its waiting areas.
