Family Safety Night attracts more than 300 people
More than 300 people came to the 14th Annual Family Safety Night held March 14, 2008, to learn about a variety of health and wellness topics, ranging from hunting safety to sports injury prevention.
The event included a free meal, puppet show, screenings, and more than 20 safety and wellness stations. The program was designed to help families teach healthy habits and important safety information that was fun for children.
"We all know we need to talk to our kids about internet safety or seat belt use. This event presents those topics in a fun and interactive manner, which helps children learn and retain the information," said Mary Sprosty, Community Relations Coordinator for Boscobel Area Health Care, a major sponsor of the event.
"My children couldn't stop talking about seat belt use after a state trooper showed them a demonstration with eggs in a toy car. One had a rubber band seat belt, the other did not. It was very visual, and very effective," said Sprosty.
Family Safety Night was planned by Crawford County Farm Safety Council and Boscobel FFA, with sponsorship from Boscobel Area Health Care and UW-Extension. The program serves families from Crawford, Grant, and Richland County.
