Local Pharmacist featured on television
Boscobel Area Health Care Pharmacy Director Doug Knoble will have a three-minute segment on the nationally televised MDTV show on Fox 47.
The episode will explore the dangers of medication errors among the elderly, and what healthcare organizations are doing to prevent medication-related accidents.
Knoble was selected as the local expert for the Wisconsin viewing area because of his work with the Med Minder program.
The Med Minder program is a tool utilized by pharmacy, staff, and physicians at Boscobel Area Health Care.
"The most frequent cause of medication errors is miscommunication about those medications," explained Knoble. "The Med Minder card enables patients to keep an accurate list of medications, dosages, and reasons for the medication in one area."
"By understanding the purpose of each medication, patients are more likely to take it correctly," Knoble said.
This portable card can be brought to the hospital, doctor's appointment, and pharmacies. It has a place to record emergency information, as well as allergies to certain medicines.
Knoble explains, "Often patients do not remember the medications they are taking and do not carry the list with them. It is very important to use a card like Med Minder, and carry it with you."
"We have a wealth of wellness knowledge among employees at Boscobel Area Health Care," said Community Relations Coordinator Mary Sprosty. "We have a commitment to apply that knowledge not only in times of illness, but in areas of prevention. Being charged with the community's health means developing programs to prevent accidents and injuries, as well as always being available to treat them."
The Med Minder program is one of many community education tools utilized at Boscobel Area Health Care to help reduce serious health emergencies.
