BAHC welcomes new surgery nurse manager

Boscobel Area Health Care welcomed Gretchen Graham as their new Surgery Nurse Manager last month.

Graham works closely with BAHC's surgeons, including general surgeons Dr. James Yurcek and Dr. Chris Hugo, both who began at Boscobel Area Health Care within the past three years. "They are both very professional, personable physicians with remarkable experience working in rural facilities," says Graham.

Specialty surgeons also perform procedures at Boscobel Area Health Care. Those surgeons include Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Stephen Pierotti, Podiarists Dr. William Chubb and Dr. Nicolas Lombardo, and Urologist Dr. Richard Graf. Internal medicine procedures are performed by Dr. Thomas Pelz.

Graham hopes to participate in community education events, promoting the preventative services her department can offer. "I want people to understand the importance of prevention. Early detection of cancer and other illnesses can be life saving."

Graham says the surgical department will highlight colon cancer prevention this year. "There are not any early warning signs of colon cancer. By the time symptoms show up, it's very late and more difficult to intervene. Preventative screenings for colon cancer are therefore very important."

Types of the procedures performed at BAHC include joint replacements, arthroscopies, foot procedures, c-sections, hysterectomies, pacemaker placement, gallbladder and appendix removal, tonsil removal, carpal tunnel, bladder lifts, colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, hernia repairs, sclerotherapy, breast biopsies, skin grafts and lesion removal, mastectomies with breast implants, and removal of internal scarring adhesions, to name a few.
