Timeline History of Boscobel Area Health Care

The following are highlights from the decades of progress and expansion that have occurred since the Memorial Hospital of Boscobel Association was incorporated on July 20, 1946.

1950Fundraising campaign begins in October with a goal of raising $120,000. $167,000 is raised and construction of the $435,800 project begins in 1951.
1952Auxiliary (now Partners) is organized on February 8th. Open house on October 18-19 celebrates completion of building.
1968-1969First phase of nursing home is added to the existing hospital and opens in May with 50 available beds. First 19 residents are transferred from Maple Lawn Nursing Home.
Name is changed to Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home of Boscobel.
1973The second floor of the nursing home is completed, adding 50 beds. Financing for the $1,250,000 nursing home is accomplished in part by selling revenue bonds through the City of Boscobel. In exchange, the City takes ownership of the nursing home and hospital and leases the facilities back to the Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home of Boscobel Association, an arrangement that remains in place until October, 1992 when the City returns title of the property to the Association.
1986The Mental Health unit is established with eight inpatient beds. Management services are provided by Psychiatric Institutes of America.
1988The Mental Health unit expands to 16 beds
1989Capital campaign is launched for building addition to house new surgery and outpatient areas. Goal is to raise a minimum of $700,000 in pledges.
1990Final campaign report shows pledge total of $738,370 with significant gifts from Boscobel State Bank, Advance Transformer, Dick's Supermarkets, and Mr. and Mrs. Donovan Nelson.
 On August 16, 1990, the Foundation is officially established as a separate private nonprofit organization to assist Memorial Hospital of Boscobel with fund development to meet the health care needs of the community.
 Dedication ceremony and open house for new birthing and surgery suites and out-patient clinic is held in September.
1991Start of new occupational therapy program.
Purchase of new clinic site in Muscoda
1992Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home of Boscobel becomes Boscobel Area Health Care. The new name is chosen to reflect the more regional nature of the service area and to recognize the change from the original inpatient oriented hospital to the comprehensive medical facility that now additionally offers nursing home care, extensive out-patient services and mental health programs.
Board of Directors approves design for a new addition to the hospital.
40th Anniversary celebration is held.
1993Groundbreaking is held for a $4 million addition.
Cardiac Rehab program begins.
Open house for $3.8 million building project which includes a 31,000 sq. ft. addition and remodeling of 16,000 sq. ft. of existing space resulting in larger patient rooms, new chapel, two birthing suites, expanded pharmacy, new waiting room and a new intensive care unit.
1994BAHC Outpatient Clinic becomes Bluff Street Clinic.
Riverside Family Practice opens in Muscoda.
1995Outpatient mental health services are named Boscobel Counseling Services and moved to first floor of BAHC.
1997Walk-In Care is established.
2001BAHC begins management agreement with SSM Healthcare of Wisconsin.
2002BAHC celebrates 50th Anniversary.
