Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve increased independence in all facets of their lives. OT is the application of purposeful, goal-oriented activity in the evaluation and treatment of persons whose function is impaired by physical illness or injury, cognitive impairment, congenital or developmental disability, or the aging process, in order to achieve optimal function.

Occupational Therapy services at Boscobel Area Health Care include, but are not limited to:

  • Customized treatment programs to improve one's ability to perform daily activities
  • Comprehensive home evaluations with adaptation recommendations
  • Assessing adaptive equipment needs and provide training
  • Design, fabrication and application of splints, including custom static splint fabrications
  • Guidance and education for family members and caregivers for follow through of patient care
  • Evaluations for disability hunting licenses
  • Therapeutic activities to enhance functional performance
  • Teaching compensatory techniques for visual perceptual and cognitive deficits and sensory impairment
  • Education of work simplification, energy conservation and joint protection techniques

 

Examples of impairments commonly treated include, but are not limited to:

  • Upper body/arm injuries, including post-surgical treatment
  • Elbow, Hand and Finger difficulties, including repetitive motion injuries
  • Neurological impairments, such as post-stroke, spinal cord or head injury
  • Pediatric developmental delays
  • Cognitive and perceptual impairment
  • Limitations resulting from Arthritis, Pulmonary disease and the aging process

Occupational Therapists and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants are trusted healthcare professionals that are licensed and have graduated from accredited occupational therapy programs. We work under the direction of physicians and other medical professionals to help patients improve their condition and independence, therefore a referral from a primary care provider is needed.
